#2 the depress

[ It takes him a solid minute of 'Is that her? It can't be her. What's she doing here?' from the time he spots her to answer the questions ('It is. It can be. Getting weapons.'). He cycles quickly through a number of emotions and if it had been five, six months ago the wheel o' emotions might have landed on pulsing rage that cannot be quelled.

By all means, it still should. She had shot him. Not just that, but she'd betrayed him and the BSAA. Would the Jessica he'd known back in the FBC have done this? Or, had that experience twisted and tainted her as it had all of them in one way or another? He could handle such a thing better now, but knowing he'd told the cadet that it wasn't their place to question or investigate when all of his accusations had been correct... it was a punch to the face just like being betrayed by his former partner had been.

It's one of his last memories, from home. He doesn't know how it might end, but that doesn't change the facts. She'd not only left him to die, but she'd left Jill and Raymond and Chris to die with the ship's secrets, as well.

It sickens him that he has to do this again (and that he knows he's too soft and that the he knows he might very well make the same mistake again), but he draws the simple semi-automatic Beretta M1951 he'd picked up here when his weapons were missing. He's also replaced his axe, but there's too much room for a mistake with that. He aims it and approaches, leaving about as much space as the last time between the two of them.

I wouldn't put all my eggs in one basket if I were you.
