How long have you been here?

[ she's still not quite used to the calendar they use here, so let her count on her fingers and mouth the months to try and get a bearing on the answer to the question. ]

There was October, and I think I came in the beginning of September, so... [ when she runs out of fingers, even she looks a little surprised. ] Um... almost a whole year, I think.

[theotherpromise]

A year? [he blinks, eyes wide.] You've been away from home that long?

[ seeing his surprise just makes the length of time she's been here sink in even more. long... it really was a long time, wasn't it.

a slow nod. ]

I don't want to worry you, though. People do get to go home--I've seen them leave. [ maybe she should just pretend she's been here for a shorter time... ] I guess me and some other people are just... a little special?

A little special... [he deflates, his shoulders and his gaze lowering in thought. special enough to be kept for that long? what about sora? what about the things he's been taken from that need him there?

he looks back to her.] What do I need to do to get home?

[ and just like that, her lips press together a little more tightly. let her think about how to word this one. ]

... I'm sorry. I wish I knew, too. [ woah, what a good answer. ] I don't think there's anything you need to do--it's, um... it just happens. One day they're here, and then... they're not. They go home.

Mm... A year is a little long, after all. [ and though that's a little bit sad, she cheers up with a light smile and tone soon after.

No... sometimes it is a little dangerous. People don't have any of their magic when they come here, but one time the Landlord gave everyone a random ability. Um... not everyone used them to help people. And some of them weren't safe at all. [ a pause. ] I think... mine was "trip, and explode".

[ and she's totally clumsy so. ]

And before that, someone went around hurting people. It was just those two things, I think.

What? [that's, um. terrifying.]

You mean the lessor, right? So he can take everyone's powers, but also redistribute them? That- That sounds terrible.

Who was the person that attacked you guys?

I'm not sure. [ it happened really quickly--she didn't get a name, and colette hasn't seen her since. ] She had brown hair in two braids, and um... that's all I really remember.

It's only ever happened that once. The Lessor giving people powers they didn't have before, and [ carefully: ] that person. Usually, if he gives something back, it's something you had in the first place. He's given me back a lot of what I had back home.

And she's not here anymore. [from what he's gathering, anyway. it's formed as more of a question.]

So there a reward system, almost? [his face sours a bit.] That's kind of cruel, isn't it? Giving you things from the home he's keeping you from.

Mm... at the same time, I think it's better than nothing. It felt a little strange not being able to do what I could before. [ she seems a little pensive after this, though. ] But I guess it really is, a little bit--cruel, that is. I never really thought of it like that before.
