TEST DRIVE FRICK YEAH

TEST DRIVE MEME

WHAT THE FUCK TO DO:

► STEP 1; Post a comment with a character that's not in HH as if they're already in the setting or alternative version, post character who is in HH. Scenarios if you need them!
► STEP 2; Tag around and get a feel for your characters, whether or not you're voice testing or planning to actually app them in!
► STEP 3; Post this all over your plurk and get people to get their big asses in here and force them to app or face the consequences. Oh, and I guess have fun. I suppose that's important, too.

Hubert Oswell | Tales of Graces

A ✧ Housing Gate

It really is quite remarkable...

[It's definitely something that took some time to get used to; living anything resembling a domestic life always seemed like it was eons way. Between his work with the military and eradication forces, a marriage offer he hadn't been interested in, some off-handed proposals of a presidency, there simply wasn't any time for it. The one person he wanted to lead that sort of life with was too busy in her own life to even recognize his desires, so it had been a back-burner idea.

Until recently, of course. And now that he's got the time for leisure, and has accepted it, Hubert's doing a pretty good job of actually enjoying something. Even if it's just noting the sunset while sitting out front of his home with a book. But hey, the more the merrier, right?

Well, maybe. He's still not the most keen on being interrupted, but maybe on a temperate night with a nice sunset, some company would be welcomed.]

B ✧ Shopping Gate

[Job hunting is actually the exact opposite of relaxing. All he has is military experience. Where is he supposed to start in finding a job in this sort of place? He's not qualified for any of these jobs. Needless to say, he's annoyed, mildly confused, and could probably use some guidance. A suiting job, one that will help him to care properly for his new "family..."

...And take care of repairs on the car of his that a certain other family member had caused by getting in and driving recklessly without any sort of idea how to actually operate it properly. Sigh. A heavy, heavy sigh as he pushes his glasses up on his nose and wanders around the area. Help. Someone help.]

[ living a relaxing life was fun and all, but when you have a wife like Pascal, there's bound to be some sort of excitement. whether it's from exploding appliances or crashing cars, or even menial things and activities, adrenaline is bound to be pumping. there was hardly any silence in the household, not with Pascal bounding about and yelping about something or other.

she doesn't hear what he says, since she was just exiting through the front door, quietly(?!?!?!) shutting it behind her, when it was muttered. Pascal figures she should just announce her presence then and there, since it was just informing Hubert about the state of their future meal, but that wasn't any fun. instead, she approaches him from behind, leaning and looking at him from above with a wide grin on her face. ]

Heya, hubby! Dinner's almost ready!

[Maybe it's because he spends so much time either being flustered or totally frustrated with Pascal that he can take in those rare peaceful moments and appreciate them.

Not only are they rare, but they're short-lived. Like now, for instance. So caught in admiring the peace, Pascal sneaking up on him just completely takes him by surprise. Which, coincidentally, is not really a surprise at all otherwise. It's enough for him to let out a startled yelp, though, and drop his book. So much for enjoying that sunset, huh?]

--You could have said that without sneaking up on me, I hope you realize! [Though he doesn't entirely mind. It's not like he really wants to refuse opportunities to be this close to her.]

And given that I didn't smell you when you opened the door, I'd presume you remembered to bathe today. And without a reminder from me, for once.

Heeey, I remember to bathe on my own sometimes!

[ sometimes meaning rarely, although the prospect of near-infinite hot water may have been key in getting her to wash herself today. then again, there were all sorts of discoveries and observations she had to find and make that it was still a miracle she remembered that bathing was something she had to do. technology seemed to go all sorts of ways here, mostly forward, and there was so much new technology that she had barely scratched the surface of all there was.

without hardly an invitation at all, she settles herself on the arm of the chair, taking a seat right next to Hubert. despite the precarious position, she manages to settle herself there quite nicely with her hands hanging onto the bar between her legs. ]

And I could have, yeah, [ she turns and grins at him then, a cheeky and innocent little thing: somewhat similar to her "bwa-ha-ha" grin, but not quite. ] but that doesn't mean I didn't want to.

I fail to see why you deem it necessary to try and startle me that way.

[Still, despite his words, he doesn't sounds too angry about it. If anything, he's a bit on the flustered side, or maybe even a bit deflated.

It it too much to ask that they can enjoy the time they've got without the dramatics? Of course it is, because it's Pascal. He knows this, but still... It's not easy. His eyes follow her motions as she sits -- close, but still not close enough -- and gives him that grin. He sees it as bright; brighter than the sun even, and Hubert has to suppress a smile of his own getting to see it.

There's just the slightest upward turn of lips before he turns to face forward and watch the lowering sun. If he doesn't look at her, it's more likely his heart will stop racing quicker, after all.]

I suppose I'll never quite understand just how things work in that head of yours.

[ she's not quite sure how Hubert still couldn't see why she wanted to surprise him with the news even though she had already relayed the reasoning: it was simply because she wanted to. there was no need for further explanation, she felt, not when it made perfect sense in her head to act so spontaneously as she usually does. it baffles her, but it isn't the first time her antics were lost on most people, which apparently makes her one heck of an enigma.

...which he all but admits to her mind being as such. her grin turns toothy as she leans forward, turning her head towards Hubert in... an odd and likely uncomfortable angle were it anyone else performing the action. ]

Nope, got one heckuva ker-jumbled mess in there! [ she taps a finger against her temple, gesturing to her "ker-jumbled mess" of a brain. ] I'd probably send puzzle masters crying to their mommies with how screwed up I am in here, to be honest.

[ were it anyone else, it may sound like a challenge... but those words were said by Pascal, and goodness knows what's going on in her brain even now. it may have been honest truth and it may have been something else entirely. ]

[When she says "screwed up," he ends up being a bit taken aback. It's hard to tell with Pascal, but there was something about it that seemed to... self-deprecating to Hubert. And maybe that's not how she means it, but his own issues and cynicism make it hard for him to see it any other way.

For a moment, he's quiet, and his expression falls. Looking back at her, he shakes his head, a small scowl appearing on his lips.]

Unpredictable, perhaps. Eccentric, most certainly. I'd hardly call "screwed up" the word for it, however.

[It actually kind of annoys him. Even if Pascal means it in a playful way, the idea of referring to herself as "screwed up," when she's anything but angers him. She may be hard to understand at times, and she marches to the beat of her own drum, but she's also caring and considerate, as well as incredibly smart. That's not screwed up at all, and he's not about to let her think that way, either.]

[personal profile] shotstaff 2013-08-02 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
Aww, now you're just being sweet!

[ his scowl doesn't go amiss, and Pascal has absolutely no idea why his attitude took a divebomb just from her comment. she could tell — not just from his expression, but from his tone of voice and his body language — that whatever she'd said had displeased him in a way, and while she does she it, the reasoning is lost on her. why is Hubert getting so mad about one little joke about her brain?

oh right. though he's definitely loosened up quite a bit, Hubert's well-known in their ragtag group as the "stuck up killjoy".

she slides back until she's touching the back of the chair, giving Hubert a playful shove once she's situated. ]

You know I'm just kidding around, Hubby. You don't have to get so pissy about it!

[personal profile] regimenting 2013-08-02 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
Wh-- There wasn't anything sweet about that at all!

[Flustered? Hubert? Nah...

Okay, he totally is. It's hard for him to help, though. Even if she meant nothing by it, Pascal getting ideas in her head that could lead her down a track of cynicism... Well, he had enough of that for the both of them. And for all the times he denies consoling her, or trying to do anything that would help her on an emotional level, there's twice as many where does whatever he can.

Of course, the fact that she's brushing it off, nudging him, and being -- well, Pascal doesn't help. Or maybe it does. There's a slight bit of relief that comes from seeing her bounce back and remain as bright as ever. But then again--]

I wasn't being "pissy" about it, either! I fail to see how adhering to my... duty as "husband" means that I'm being particularly unpleasant.

[Which, of course, is Hubert-speak for "Don't say I'm being pissy because I'm trying to look out for you!" But... It's Hubert, and he's so bad at expressing his feelings to her properly. Or at all. He gets a little more flustered when it comes to the pet names, and even saying that he's in that role, especially when knowing Pascal treats it like a game. She doesn't know he's considered more than this for them, and he can't let on to it, either.]

[ hello, hello. here comes a really tiny guy leading along a super tiny horse. it's actually a shetland pony in case you're curious. anyway, he stops to shoot young hubert a looooooong stare.

it's almost like the animal here is staring with him. ]

[He'll turn to look at Levi -- and seem completely unfazed by any of this. Okay, so it's a bit unexpected, but nothing he hasn't seen before. Either way? He's not looking too amused.]

You must be made utterly insane by everyone who stands in one spot for more than a couple of minutes then. Really, that must be difficult. [He figures it has to happen often enough. And he's not really in the mood to deal with someone trying to reprimand him when he's done nothing wrong.]
