[ he smiles at onoda in thanks, shifting the bags so the weight settles in a comfortable balance once again. luckily the fall was minor- he isn't even scraped up, and looking onoda over, he seems okay. talk about bouncing back quickly... ]

It figures. You'd think they'd make them easier to use while you're on the go...

[ this certainly isn't an unusual sight to see in holly heights, and aoba's definitely experienced it himself. ] Anyway, there should be some for sale- you can find just about anything around here, if you look hard enough.

[uphill]

Thank you! I'll go look for one then! [When he figures out where to start looking! Looking hard has just gotten him lost, unfortunately, hahaha....]

And I'll watch where I'm going better too, of course. If you say you've seen a bike shop here then it has to be somewhere! Maybe I'll find it on the way?

[But more importantly, he gives a little bow.] Thank you very much!

[intonation]

Ah, hang on! Let me see that map again, I'll mark out where I think it was for you.

[ otherwise he gets the feeling he'll spend the whole day lost... aoba digs out a pen somewhere from the depths of his bag, and then glances at onoda expectantly. ]

[uphill]

Right! Let me just- [Watch him spin around once while he reaches for the map in his back pocket. He quickly opens it up!

...And that nice, wet, dirty footprint in the middle of it gives way into a nice, big hole.]

My map! [Can Aoba still give him directions on this?] Maybe we're somewhere different on it? Where the footprint doesn't reach?

[intonation]

[ ... ]

Whoah-- talk about bad luck. [ this kid is actually a disaster magnet, isn't he? aoba sighs and runs his hand through his hair, peering at the map. ] Sorry, but it's definitely on the missing bit.

[ what to do, what to do... oh, right. he starts to fiddle with what looks like a watch on his wrist, and then a few seconds later, a projection of more or less the same map pops out from the tiny screen in a projection. ] There we go- okay, so we're here in the shopping gate, right?

[uphill]

[A projection? Onoda's going to be stunned silent for a moment before he's completely in fanboy awe.]

A-A hologram! A real hologram! [He ALMOST reaches out to touch it, but he stops himself before he can.] This is just like Shogun Time! That's right where we are! This is amazing!

[intonation]

Hahaha... [ all awkwardness aside, onoda's reaction is sort of cute. ] Wasn't the Heian era a long time ago? I'm pretty sure they didn't have these back then. But they're common back home.

[ unless he's referring to some kind of show or something. either way, aoba points at the map. ]

It was really close to the Ikea, I think.

[uphill]

Ah- [He's perfectly prepared to explain himself to Aoba before he follows his finger to the map. He leans in super close to get a good picture of it. And because this is just too cool.]

Right! I think I remember where the Ikea is! It's not too far from here. [And he can ask a clerk for directions out of the Gate too

He rocks back onto his heels.] And, I'm sorry, Shogun Time is a TV show... that I know about. [DON'T SAY ANIME.] But how did you get one of these? Do they sell them anywhere? It's incredible!

[intonation]

Shogun Time? So it's like a historical drama? [ it sounds too much like the kind of drama that yoshie-san back home enjoyed-- but he's not sure how a crazy romantic subplot would be included... anyway, is that really what kids today enjoy watching too? ]

Sorry, it came with me from back home, so I don't know if you'll find one here.

[uphill]

S-Sort of! [It's more of a mecha japanimation show but Aoba doesn't need to know that] It's like what it would be like if some modern technology was normal to have back then... [Hopefully he's making some sense?]

But that was from your home? [Pointing to the watch!] You must be from the future! [As if Aoba would recognize that.] Can everyone make holograms come out of their watch then? Do they have flying cars? Or do people fly space ships?

[intonation]

Right. [ okay, not historical but sort of historical. he's pretty sure if he tries to pursue that line of conversation, he'll end up with nothing but a headache or an episode by episode recount of the entire series. better steer away for now. ]

Uh, I guess so? Though it's more like everyone else is from the past. [ except for the people actually from the future. he taps his watch. ] They're called Coils, and yeah, most people have them. No luck on the flying cars though, at least not where I'm from. You really like that type of stuff, huh?

[uphill]

[)8 You don't want to hear all about the Chaos Sword Arc, Aoba??

But, uh, Onoda is being way too obvious, isn't he? He blushes all up his cheeks, carding his fingers through the back of his hair as he toes the ground.]

It's just so new and it hasn't been developed where I'm from! Hearing about the future would be interesting to anyone, wouldn't it? This is the type of thing I only see when I watch TV!

[intonation]

[ maybe he'll watch it if it airs!!

aoba laughs- nothing mean about it, just an open friendliness. he starts to fiddle with the device, pulling up random features like games and call logs. ]

Nah, I know what you mean. My Coil-- that's what they're called- it isn't one of the newer models, but I've had it for a while and it works just fine. They're really convenient, especially back home when you can connect to the network! There's a GPS function, and you can do a lot of stuff with them.

[uphill]

[Onoda just watches all in awe, making sure to keep his hands away despite really wanting to try touching this thing.]

This is amazing... [Said for the umpteenth time.] It's like a high-tech communicator and laptop, even better than a cell phone! [He looks back to Aoba.] You have a network back home too? Is it like the one that the Landlord has here?

[intonation]

Right? I can't remember when exactly they came out with these, but it made life way easier. It cuts down on the gadgets you have to carry around.

[ he furrows his brows slightly, and shakes his head. ] Sort of. It's not the same, it was just the internet, and you couldn't get in touch with everyone living in the district unless you already knew them. If that makes sense.

[uphill]

Ah, so it was like the internet. [He nods. He at least knows what that's about.] It does! But can you talk with everyone here too, with that? Did the Landlord change how your gadget worked too?

[He fishes out his own phone. It's the same one from home, but all of his contacts were deleted and replaced. There are so many people here he's never even met before. He studies it.] If the Landlord can do even that, he seems like kind of a scary person, doesn't he?

[intonation]

Yeah, plain old ordinary internet, not this weird network.

[ with its utter lack of internet but somehow everyone still remains connected to it... could it really be magic? or maybe there is internet connection, hidden behind layers of protection. whoops, back to onoda. ]

It was nearly wiped out when I got here- my contacts were missing, and calls wouldn't go through to back home... but it works for people here.

What's weird about him is why he's doing this.

[uphill]

[With how Aoba says it, it almost sounds like-]

[intonation]

Well, I've got a few ideas... there's not a lot to do when you're stuck here, so I bet everyone's got their own theory.

[uphill]

So there's nothing for sure. [Onoda's eyes travel wearily to the sidewalk.] I wonder what he's like? But- At least we're safe, right?

[OR IT LOOKS SAFE? He smiles nervously back up at Aoba.] When I don't run into things, anyway! Or fall onto people... [He bows a bit.] My name is Sakamichi Onoda! Thank you again!

[intonation]

He's-- weird. Not the type of guy I'd want to get mixed up with, but... [ sometimes these things happen and nothing can prevent it.

aoba smiles back at him, trying to seem a bit more reassuring. he returns the bow too, and then shuts down the functions on his coil. ] I'm Aoba. And don't worry about it, I wasn't looking either. Good luck finding the store!

[uphill]

[People keep giving him only one name here ;_; He'll just call him Aoba-san and hope that's his surname...]

Thanks, Aoba-san. I'll remember the directions you gave me! [Sort of. As best he can, anyway. Hahahaa. He folds up his map and pushes it in his pocket.] I'm sure I'll find it! Take care.
