(ooc: i'm making this their first meeting I HOPE THAT'S OK)

[Thankfully Onoda is stopped in his tracks just before he can hurt himself, but not only out of shock. There's only one person with that voice who calls him by that name.

Onoda lowers his map and turns himself partway, initially only looking over his shoulder.]

Makishima-san...? [Green hair. Ten billion feet tall. That's really him. Onoda faces him entirely.]

Makishima-san, you're really here? [His eyes might be watering a little. Sorry but things are about to get as awkward as they usually do with these two]

[Beauty marks and long eyelashes and everything. He's definitely the real deal, but Makishima didn't expect for Onoda to get so darn emotional over seeing him. What's the big deal? They'd technically seen each other just a moments ago! Not here here but-- oh whatever. He'd better get to work on calming Onoda down before he causes a scene.]

Y-yeah, I'm really here, so take it easy, okay? You don't have to go and cry about it! [He doesn't know how to comfort someone, is he doing this right? Does he have to hug him? Please don't make him hug you.]

[Only Makishima thinks it's been a few moments! A hug would have been nice but Onoda's not going to make him do that. Instead he quickly wipes his eyes on his sleeve, riding up his glasses.]

Sorry! [He sniffs, drops his arm, and beams up at him, puffy eyes and all! All fixed up.] I just thought that I was here all alone, but someone else I know from Chiba is here too! [BEAMING!] I've been here for a few days, but I haven't seen anyone else I recognize. I'm really glad!

Makishima-san, do you know if anyone else arrived here? Naruko-kun, or Tadokoro-san, or Captain Kinjou?

[climber]

[Oh thank god, he's snapped out of it. He was starting to get worried for a moment.]

Ah... that would be kind of convenient, I guess. [Makishima doesn't mind being alone. He's always had a habit of doing stuff solo, seeing as people have usually been wary around him, but having someone he knows around... maybe it's a pretty good thing. He's got a teammate with him, and now Onoda has one too. And speaking of--]

No, I haven't noticed them. I just got here yesterday. [Setting down his bags on the ground, Makishima reaches into his back pocket for a cellphone.] This isn't my phone, but it works like any regular one. Want me to try calling them?

you think you can just show up and tell me how to live my life!!

[uphill]

[His face falls.] Ah... You can try? I didn't memorize any of their numbers, and my contacts were all wiped out.

[He fishes his own phone from his pocket, but he doesn't turn it on, only studies it.] I've tried to call my mom, but it didn't work. But maybe we should try again?

[climber]

I've got Tadokorocchi's number memorized, so I'll just try him first. [Just gonna press a couple of buttons and then hold the phone up to his ear, dial tone ringing for a moment before--

Nothing. No sound, no more ringing, no response at all until after a few more seconds he hears a dial tone. That's kinda weird... Makishima's eyebrows scrunch up as he tries dialing the number again. Then the same thing. No response, like the signal just cuts off.]

Can't reach him. I know he didn't get a new phone, so the signal must be pretty bad around here.

[uphill]

[Onoda's going to let himself be hopeful; he watches Makishima intently, big-eyed and hopeful as he holds his breath. He's waiting for Makishima to perk up and suddenly greet Tadokoro over the phone--but it never happens. At the second dial, Onoda is less hopeful. When he turns off his phone, he's looking at the ground, sullen and sighing.]

You think so? [Then he looks back to Makishima.] I heard that we can't reach anyone outside of here. Do you really think it's just bad reception, Makishima-san?

[climber]

[While he's not terribly concerned about not being able to reach Tadokoro, it's still a little confusing as to why he can't get an answer in the first place. Instead of making a second try, Makishima decides to try a risky maneuver, so after taking a deep breath, he starts to dial Toudou's number--

Then he stops. And he just... stares at Onoda for a moment before snapping his phone shut, eyes slightly narrowed.]

No, because you just said what the problem is. Why didn't you tell me sooner?

[uphill]

[....OH NO IS HE REALLY MAD? ;_;]

I-I-It's just something that I heard! I didn't know if it was true or not! What if it is just a reception problem? Or maybe my phone is just broken?

[climber]

[FOR LIKE FIVE SECONDS but seeing Onoda deflate and sputter pathetically douses his fuse soon enough, and he just sighs heavily. It is really hard to be mad when the flailing thing happens.]

Let me try one more number then. If that doesn't work, then I'm just going to say that it's this place and not us.

[Welp, time to try calling Toudou. This is probably the only time he'll be glad to willingly talk to him like this.]

[uphill]

[Makishima calling again seems like a good sign? Onoda relaxes some, nodding eagerly before watching Makishima make his call.

When that doesn't work, Onoda looks considerably down.]

So there really isn't a way to reach people from home. What about our families?

[climber]

[And once again, he gets the same outcome as before. No answer, no nothing, and it's not like Toudou to not answer his phone when he calls. That's only ever the case when it's the other way around.]

No luck. [And he shuts his phone, rubbing at the back of his neck.] You can try giving it a shot, but I don't think there's going to be much of a difference.

[uphill]

[Onoda gets that same rise and fall of hope when he watches Makishima make his call to no avail. Dread sits in his stomach, but there's nothing he can do about it now.]

Right... [He lowers his eyes.] Maybe I'll try later tonight. [He'd rather not go through calling someone and not getting a response again. So, instead, his eyes fix on Makishima's bag. He looks up at him, pointing to it.]

Makishima-san, you went shopping already?
