That's what Karasuno is! [Volleyball is made up of dreams and animal symbolism.] We're the crows who aren't flightless anymore! We're gonna go to the nationals and win.

[The way he says it is very, very confident. Like it's a fact. But anyway!! So relieved. And forever talkative. Sorry, Sakamichi.]

Ahhhhh, I sure am glad to hear that there is one here... I'd hate it if I got left behind. Is the biking club fun? You have races, I think? I just ride a bike through the mountains to get to school every morning myself. I bet everyone underestimates you!

[And biking is made up of sweat and self-made titles that are supposed to be intimidating but just sound super dumb. In an endearing kind of way.

But with that kind of confidence, this person is starting to sound more and more like Naruko. He's friendly enough to boot! So Onoda loosens up a bit, smiling softly.]

Actually, everyone in the club has been very supportive! Even before I got into the club, they were looking out for me. [He beams a little more.] We do have races! And I used to bike up to the mountains to go to my school too! Do you like riding up hills, Shouyou-san? What kind of bike do you have?

[Onoda was inwardly overwhelmed with his peppiness before, but now Onoda's caught up in his excitement a little too. Oops.]

[Good!! Get excited with him, Sakamichi!!! Your club sounds great, considering his team members tease him sometimes and two of them a lot!

Though he's a little more bewildered about the questions. What kind of bike?? It's just one he rides, he doesn't remember the specifics, um um um--]

I dunno what kind it is! Climbing the hills is kinda fun but my favorite part is going down them, 'cause the wind's all like fooooo and it's really fast and really fun and it reminds me of when I do a quick with Kageyama - he tosses to me! - because my heart's racing and my spine's tingling and it's just...

[Give him a moment to breath. He's grinning really wildly. And has been frantically waving his arms and making a general fuss in movements.]

There's nothing else like it! The feel of the ball in my hand is something I can't forget, and riding down a steep hill's just like that! It's also great because I get a head start on Kageyama even if I can't stop going so fast on the last hill to our school and he ends up getting ahead anyway...

[There are specifics about the bikes he can ask, but the rest of what Shouyou says throws him off entirely--and he doesn't mind at all. He gestures with his hands, grinning from ear to ear; he's not as wildly enthusiastic as Shouyou, but he is just as passionate!]

Shouyou-san, you can ride down hills with the biking club whenever you want! I feel the same way when I ride up hills, and when I'm racing with my friends, I feel like I could follow them anywhere! There really isn't anything like it at all.

I know bicycling isn't like volleyball, but even if you don't enter the club, maybe you could give it a try? I'd like to try riding down a hill with you someday! [Onoda isn't considering trying volleyball just yet because biking is the first sport he feels like he's good at ;_;]

Even if he doesn't join up... He could give it a try! He'll nod enthusiastically! Biking might just be Sakamichi's thing - haha, that name and occupation is great - but:]

I can try it out! I haven't given up on the volleyball club, but we can still ride together even when I don't join! And I'll help you find members, too!! Give me some of those flyers, I'll ride around and throw them at people!

[It's okay. He'll get you to toss for him as extra practice, Sakamichi. It doesn't matter if you don't know how to, he hits literally anything.]

[The irony of the name's been pointed out even in canon. And where the ball goes wouldn't be much of an issue--it's probably how far Onoda could get it in the first place. He'll try though!]

Well, I'm a spiker! I'm called the Ultimate Decoy by the team!

[And though that doesn't sound like a title you should be proud of, he's saying it with a lot of confidence. It's a learned confidence... Maybe here he can be the ace in a sport meant for taller people. Be prepared for some energetic talking, new friend.]

I don't know what the setter's like here, and I'll still practice with them... But I'd love to practice outside too! So you just need to toss to me! It's just like tossing a ball into the air and then I'll be like BAM and hit it! It sounds great!

[Onoda has no idea how volleyball works, so he's thinking that being a spiker/decoy is probably SUPER IMPORTANT with how Hinata is making it sound.]

That's amazing! You even have a title! [Again, titles are like badges in Yowapeda. Then Onoda deflates.] But Shouyou-kun, I'd like to throw for you, but I don't think I'll be able to do it very far. I've never really been good at other sports...

That's okay! In middle school, I didn't have a proper setter or even a real club for volleyball, so i kept bugging my friends to practice with me! They were into different sports and they weren't that good at tossing, but it was okay because they still tried. And I hit them just fine! All you gotta do is keep trying one more time!

[Aka u gonna be fine kid he's hit worse tosses. Like impossible, had to run across the court to hit them diagonally tosses.]

But-... [He can keep insisting that he'll just drop the ball two feet away or do something embarrassing, but Hinata is telling him to at least try, and it can't hurt, right? Even if he's had bad experiences before... And he's making a friend now! He can't pass this up!! Onoda breathes in deeply and nods.]

Okay. I'll try! [ALL SERIOUS.] I don't think I have much to do after school except biking and homework, so... I'll do my best! [Now he'll reach into his back and pull out a small stack, offering them with a hesitant little smile.] Thank you, Shouyou-kun.

Of course!! And I'll do whatever I can to help you, too~! So just say if you need something! [And they can trade phone numbers. He's taking out his cell phone as he speaks!! Good thing it doesn't conflict with him holding the papers much, though it might as well with out he's scrambling to keep them together.] Let's trade numbers, too! So we can text each other and stuff! I'm kinda bummed I don't have my friends' numbers on here anymore anyway.

[Changing phone numbers-! The club exchanged numbers for the sake of Kinjou's texts, but he and Naruko had already planned on exchanging phone numbers in the first place. This is what real friends do! Onodo fishes his phone from his own pocket, sobering up a bit at Hinata's last statement.]

I know how you feel. I feel sad about not having my friends' phone numbers either. [He looks back to Hinata with a hopeful little smile.] But that means we just have to find more friends here, right?

[Looking back to his phone.] I should be in your contact list! Sakamichi Onoda, O-N-O-D-A. I'm in house [INSERT HOUSE NUMBER HERE]. And you're... Hinata Shouyou. How do you spell your last name, Shouyou-san?

Right!! And then we'll introduce our new friends to our old friends, because the guy who's my setter stick in the mud [He's not, Kageyama is very fun to talk to and play with and against, but Hinata enjoys complaining.] and he's not very good with talking and stuff [Yelling on the other hand, so good at.] so he could definitely use help in the friend department, since I don't think he's got a single one!

[Besides the team. But that's just obvious. He takes the time to put in his new friend's before giving his own, because Hinata is single track minded and he'll get distracted otherwise.]

H-I-N-A-T-A! House [# here]! It doesn't sound like we're really far apart, so we can totally ride to school together and stuff!

I have a friend like that at home too. [Imaizumi, specifically. Onoda beams.] He's not always friendly, but I think he's a better friend than he knows. And his biking is amazing! Yeah, let's help all of our friends get friends! [This kinship between sports teams is something he's totally new to, but he's starting to understand it a little more now.

--UH BUT. WAIT A SECOND.]

Y-Y-Your last name is Hinata?! [HE THOUGHT THAT WAS HIS FIRST NAME ;_; Onoda steps back and bows profusely! His flyers are even starting to slip out of his bag.] I'm sorry, Hinata-kun! I've been calling you by the wrong name this whole time! I'm sorry!

[This guy doesn't see an issue. At all. Both his names sound like first names after all. Hinata shrugs, then shakes his head.]

I don't mind at all? We're friends, right? And you're a first year too! Right? [Hopeful. So hopeful. He made the mistake of thinking another short person had been in his year, when he'd actually been his senior. But the other guy didn't like the whole "sports hierarchy" thing so they call each other by first names.]

I am, but... it's not proper, is it? We only just met. [He doesn't even call Naruko, who is undoubtedly the closest friend he has, by his first name.] You're really alright with it?

No problems here! If you don't like to do that though, you can call me whatever. I don't mind~!

Okay... Shouyou-kun. [Somehow, saying it feels different and improper now..... Hopefully that wears off with time.] I'm sure I'll get used to it. But you can keep calling me Sakamichi too, in that case?

[His mom usually calls him that, but if he can get used to being called "Megane-kun," he can get used to someone calling him by his first name, right?]
