a little bit of both! the snakes need an "empty shell" (ie. a dead kid, hi kido) as their hosts in order to manifest into reality, but it's not like there's an actual physical snake chilling out in her body. it's sort of like a spirit, if that makes any sense.

JFC it all makes sense now! Yeah so then Kaede should be able to copy the KP's kids' abilities just fine if the snakes essentially fuel them and the Azami-DNA thing.
