test drive meme

Want to app, or maybe you've already got one written up? Maybe you want to try before you buy? This is the meme for that, in the official pre-opening test drive meme! Of course, it's unfair to throw you into a sea without some life vest, so some prompts for possible situations have been given to you, and are as follows. These can all be in either log style, text, voice, or video; it's up to you!

YOUR OPTIONS

THE HOUSING GATE. While your new home is extremely lovely with a well stocked fridge and french doors and a carpet you could probably sleep comfortably on, especially if you're married and don't want to deal with awkward bed sharing, it's nice to go out every once in a while and explore the area. You do have a new car you know. Maybe you're a kid, joy riding, or taking you family on a little trip through the rows of houses that all look suspiciously alike. Or, perhaps, you've brought a friend along on a trip to somewhere else (you are running out of that low-fat butter you bought recently), maybe it's even a hitch-hiker! The possibilities are endless, but one thing is certain no matter the scenario: you're going to be stuck in this car for a while.

THE SHOPPING GATE. You're at work. Yeah, you've got a job now, working the 9 to 5, making money to buy that expensive food you like so much. Where do you work? Who are you working with? Do you like your boss? The answers to those questions are up to you. You should really pay attention to that customer coming up to you though. Since that is what you're getting paid for and all.

THE PLEASURE GATE. There's a show going on, although as you watch, the NPCs performing it really aren't up to snuff. Their choppy legwork and monotonous musical numbers leave much to be desired. It's really quite boring to see La Favola d'Orfeo so brutally murdered by untalented, robotic, minions such as these. Maybe texting is in order. Maybe walking out and leaving, catching another show or taking a stroll is in order? They really ought to hire different people to put these things on.

THE ALUMNI GATE. That obnoxious ringing alerts you that school has started yet again. Why do they make you come to this place when all the stupid teachers do is yammer about random things that no one really cares about. Since when did the economy really matter, anyway? Are you going to sit here and take this? Or walk around the school? The boring lady up front isn't really going to notice. Maybe you should go to lunch or chat up some school chums? Your youth isn't going to last forever, you know.

WHATEVER YOU WANT, BRO. Use your imagination and get creative on your own terms! This doesn't count as being in game completely, so feel free to take some liberties with events that could have happened, people you could have met! Just remember to stick to game structure and the rules.

[He glances down at the various books stacked along the shelf. Wow, that's a lot of books.]

For a hobby, you sure devote plenty of time to it. Is it lucrative?

[And she has so many more plans and sketches for even more. Soon she'll be looking at taking up another display!]

I was once able to buy a giant flying goldfish-slash-airship when stranded in the middle of nowhere surviving only off of my earnings made from doing this, you tell me.

[Giant flying gold-what? He'll just guess it's a cushy living.]

Er, I see...

You must have many fans. Do you get stopped on the street often for autographs?

It's hard to get across just how awesome the Great Paru-sama and her star-shaped, eighteen cylinder spirit engine is in words, but yeah, I hope you do see.

[Man she misses her airship. That thing was the bomb.]

Ufufu, fans? That's dream material right there, being recognised for my work and being stopped to sign something. Once I'm done sweeping the magical world as a master manga artist that sort of reaction will probably come with the territory.

The Great Paru-sama?

[The magical world, huh. Is she talking about this world? Let's not delve into that.]

Well, I wish you luck! You definitely have the talent to become famous.

Ah, you must be in-the-know about comics. Have you ever heard of the Moomins?

Aahaha~ Thank you, once I buckle down and set my mind on it I'll be known worldwide! ... Or at least here anyway.

[The only downside about wanting to be a world famous artist in a tiny enclosure like this is that she'll have to settle for being 'enclosure famous'. Good enough.]

They sound familiar. The hippos that were made in Poland, yeah?

[Her childhood was severely lacking in Moomins.]

Everyone starts somewhere! This place really feels like its own little world, doesn't it? So isolated...

[D'OH. Close but yet so far. No biggie, he'll let it slide this time.]

Eh heh heh, Finland actually. That's where I'm from.

[He was also the country of Finland until he arrived here, but he won't mention that for now.]

It's pretty cut off but I can't really knock it considering how perfect everything seems to be. Plus a free car, that's pretty nice.

[Not that she can drive for another year. But when she can there will be mayhem.]

Aaah, I was close! Points for trying. I'm from Japan myself.

[She might well freak out that she's talking to a country. Freak out in a good way.]

[personal profile] sauna 2012-04-24 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's a nice car alright.

[Perhaps due to cynicism from his old age, Finland can't see it as "perfect." How could it be perfect when it pulls people from their lives and forces them into new ones?]

You get points simply for recognizing it. Ah, I've been to Japan a few times for business! I've never heard of "ero" or Comiket before, though.

[He wonders if Finland and Japan still exists outside this remote neighborhood...]
firemaincannon: <user name="patch_robots"> (♠The starry sky's limelight)

And a nice neighbourhood once you look past the copy and pasted scenery.

[Perfect from a 'everything is fine and dandy' point of view, rather than a 'crap I've been dragged from home whyyy' view. It's an interesting break from the mayhem back home though she does miss the airship dogfights and lasers in the sky...]

Comiket is basically a huge comic market full of cosplayers and the like out to buy self-published doujin and have a good time. 'Ero' is erotic stuff, like what I showed you!

[She could probably kick start a convention here but she doubts there are enough manganime fans here for it to work.]

[personal profile] sauna 2012-04-25 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
And it's very peaceful!

[Too peaceful. Come on, there has to be a catch to all this!]

Um... sounds fun! It'd definitely be a culture I'm not used to.

[Yeeeaaaah, he doesn't get it. Cosplayers and doujin? Is she speaking a different language?]
firemaincannon: <user name="patch_robots"> (♠I'm basking it in)

[personal profile] firemaincannon 2012-04-26 10:03 am (UTC)(link)
And a pool to boot!

[Sure beats living in the dorms at school. But there's that vague feeling of eeriness about the whole place.]

There's more to Japanese culture than just that. Flower arranging, calligraphy, kabuki theater, shrine visits, they're all important too! [...] But Comiket is a pretty huge part of the culture, yeah.

[So she might be the tiniest bit biased.]
sauna: ((nervous) rikkavesi)

sorry for the slow tag! this philosophy paper is kicking my butt.

[personal profile] sauna 2012-04-27 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Now that she mentions it, it really is a nice pool. That (and the sweet ride) doesn't make up for being unexpectedly thrown into a too-perfect neighborhood, though!]

Oh, I know about a few of those! I have a Japanese friend who tells me about his country's customs. Ah, speaking of Japan, have you noticed the large proportion of Japanese people here?

[Whoa, that came out wrong.]

N-not that I mean anything by it! It just seems odd that there're so many.
firemaincannon: <user name="patch_robots"> (♠This evening is going to be)

no worries!

[personal profile] firemaincannon 2012-04-27 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
I get what you mean. There are definitely a lot of Japanese around. I'm not the best at recognising western names so it's pretty noticeable. [...] Come to think of it you're the first Finnish guy I've met.

[Clearly in a case like this it's necessary to start concocting rumours about this place.]

It's probably a conspiracy by the guys running this place, taking some of the best minds from Japan and dumping them here.
