[Furuya's hardly an expert at life in Holly Heights yet, but one thing he absolutely does have down to a science is the grocery store, mostly because it's walk in, acquire food, and walk back out. Free access to food is a dangerous thing for a teenage boy with too much time on his hands but at least it's a long enough walk to mitigate some of the damage. Besides, it's not always bad. Today's take is going to be a bag of oranges eventually. Furuya's found one that's just the right size to practice grips on, though, and so he's standing at the produce display just turning it over in his hand. Curveball. Splitter. Two seam.

He even goes as far as to lift his arm and, finally, his head, but he's not actually going to throw the orange. At least, not once he realizes Nori-senpai is that close. (There's definitely a little hitch in his arm, though. Almost.)]

Nori-senpai?

[nori lifts his head, a little surprised at hearing his name, but any surprise is greatly diminished when he sees what is, without a doubt, furuya about to pitch an orange. indeed, any questions about where he is and how they're both here are now solidly on the back burner, because ????

furuya, please.]

...were you going to throw that?

No.

[Somebody's a terrible liar, and lying to a senior, too. Furuya busies himself with getting a bag for his totally not hardball-sized orange and a couple of others, because who buys just one orange? Or takes, anyway, the buying is a non-issue.]

When did you get here, senpai?

[uh huh. sure. nori folds his arms, not so much bothered as still just confused as to what could possibly be gained from pitching an orange, let alone while still in the poor orange's place of origin.

but he's being asked a question, so he can table his confusion for now.]

Really recently... um, I feel like I'm having trouble keeping track of time, though.

[Miyuki-senpai's put him on limited pitching until the weather cools down, but maybe that only applies to actual hardballs. At least, that is Furuya's line of thinking. Also, he wasn't expecting to get caught by someone from Seido.

Nori-senpai's answer makes him tilt his head, though.]

[heat blooms in his cheeks, quick as always-- such an obvious solution and it hadn't even occurred to him.]

I... hadn't thought of that. [he does try a small smile, though, a little embarrassed.] Thanks for the tip?

[Oh no. He didn't mean to embarrass him. Furuya blinks a couple of times and looks down.]

I haven't been here very long either so it's a lot to learn. It gets easier, though.

[It also helps that Furuya's not the most attentive to begin with, but Nori-senpai won't have that problem.]

[true, it's not so much that nori's inattentive, but more that he's just... easily overwhelmed. as evinced by how easy it is to embarrass or fluster him.]

I'd guess it has to, right...? I feel like I'm not taking it very well, though, it's so much?

[He lifts his head again, regarding Nori-senpai curiously. He doesn't want to look like he's offering advice to a senior, but senpai does seem to be asking.]

It is a lot at first. Have you talked to your family much? Mine were really kind and helpful. There's Miyuki-senpai, too...

[he shakes his head, casting his gaze down.]

No... I haven't talked to my family a lot, I've been avoiding it, I guess. It feels weird, still. But that's my own fault.

[it's a point of insecurity, actually, and true to form he dodges when he feels uncomfortable or incapable of succeeding or adapting.]

[Furuya just watches his senior for a long moment before nodding.]

I miss my real parents but the people here... They're like Takashima-san.

[He can only hope his meaning is clear because his feelings really aren't. He likes Veronica-san and Takasu but they're adults with authority over him away from home. They're helpful and kind but they're not his parents.]

[it's always a little hard for him to understand Furuya's full meanings, but this is a comparison that's easy to grasp, and he nods slowly, figuring that he gets it.]

Yeah, they are. I don't know how to feel about them being called family right off the bat.

[Miyuki's really the only one who can usually get all of what Furuya's trying to say, but he's trying to improve his communication. This... is not his best effort.]

[Nori-senpai needs his support. Furuya can do that, considering how many times Nori-senpai has supported him in the past.]

I should try to be a little more open with them... but it's easier to accept help from somebody who already knows you a little. Um-- thank you, for offering.

[O-oh. Furuya looks surprised when Nori-senpai thanks him. That's not what he expected at all. He nods, though.]
